I was watching CNBC this morning. Every time the jobs number comes out they have a panel of 6 people or so and they ask them for predictions before the number comes out. All of the estimates were over 600,000 except for Rick Santelli of Tea Party fame, the pessimist in the group, who predicted 490,000 which elicited a chuckle from a few of the guests.
Welp. It was 210,000. Dooooh!! Steve Liesman (actually spelled Lies Man), a hardcore Democrat, literally ended up saying he didn’t believe the number. Let’s go Brandon!!! More like Brandung if you ask me. 💩💩
Anyways, they started making excuses for Joe Biden and they said that the household data, which is what generates the unemployment percentage statistic, was actually quite strong. It was strong. But here’s the problem. Unlike the non-farm *PAYROLLS* number which came in at 210,000, the household data measures: (1) unincorporated self-employed, (2) unpaid family workers in family businesses, (3) agriculture and related workers, (4) workers in private households, and (5) workers on unpaid leave.
You see that? Family business stuff, self-employed, farm workers, Alyssa Milano’s butler, etc. etc. Do you know what you don’t see in there?
*clears throat*
*presses caps lock*
WHAT YOU DON’T SEE IS ANYONE WORKING A PAYROLL JOB THAT IS GOING TO ALLEVIATE THE FUCKING SUPPLY CHAIN!!!
We don’t need John Kerry to hire another live-in pool boy to bang his wife. We don’t need more farmers. We don’t need Stacy’s Arts and Crafts selling trinkets on Etsy.
We need someone to take the payroll job at the goddam logistics center next to the freeway that has a sad vinyl banner begging people with no experience to take $27/hr with benefits. There are no mom and pop logistics centers. Hot steamy self-employed action is not fixing this. All of this shit is payroll. Payroll jobs at large companies.
I’m sorry for swearing but I can’t control myself. Stacy’s Arts and Crafts is actually making it worse because somebody has to ship that stuff. Maybe she can make an artisan serving dish for my $225 pot roast. We don’t need Uber driver #27,809,233. We need that guy to be driving a forklift or operating a crane.
I have not seen anyone else make this point yet and I follow all of the ‘experts’. Nancy Pelosi’s dream of providing freebies so that everyone can become a trombonist/finger painter is coming true. Unfortunately, if we continue down this road we will all die of starvation. Enjoy.
With respect- and I'm not usually so self-serious on your stack- we do need more farmers. Absolutely we need more truck drivers and logistical services too, but the current circumstances are much worse because of deliberate efforts to strangle local food supplies.
I'm not just saying this because I moved away from NYC to become a farmer. Totally. Fuck you, fight me. :)
